Have you ever come through something so overwhelming, so potentially devastating, that when you get through it, you don’t quite know what to do or how you got through it? Have you ever faced just starting over to rebuild yourself, your life, your emotions or some aspect of your life? Many of you have faced this situation with a loss of a dear loved one, the lost of a long term job, pet or relationship and countless other examples of loss that we face throughout our lifetimes. I recommend to you to first, take some time. Just allow yourself to BE without feeling as though you have to be DOING. Just be in your emotion; be in your thoughts; be yourself. This is the opportunity to evaluate the extent of the damage and to let the dust settle. Once you start to feel some relief, this could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, months or even years depending upon the amount of upheaval that you have done through, take a look at the BELIEFS that you have developed as the result of your difficult experience. Since it was traumatic, most likely the beliefs will be negative and need to be addressed in order to move on healthily.  Answer a few questions. Finish the sentence 1) Now that I have come through this, I feel ________________. 2) Probably the most difficult part of this  was ____________________. 3) In order to move on, I must first ____________________. 4) Now that I have done so, I want to _______________. This will allow you to acknowledge where you’ve been, your feelings and also to set a positive course for the future. It takes about 5 minutes to complete this simple exercise and I encourage you to take the time. Many may just forge ahead without going through this exercise, and they will need to heal at some point in their future. Hurting is a process. Healing is a process. Taking a moment to take a breath, refresh, revamp and preparing for your next step will be the very BEST thing you can do to begin the next step process.
