Have you ever played chess? If you do, you know the ups and downs and the seemingly inevitable “oh no” feeling when you think the other player has the advantage on you. Isn’t it difficult to see when you have the advantage? I guess it dawns on you when you start to see the other player make some moves that don’t quite make sense. He’s running, covering up, trying to protect what he has left. You get a sense of confidence and begin attacking stronger, don’t you? But up until it becomes obvious, you feel vulnerable, weak, afraid yourself; concerned for your next move and can’t quite see what’s certain. I’ve learned a lot as I’ve played computerized chess. The computer knows all the possible moves. It has an advantage to some degree because it is programmed for success – sort of like life is. We just need to figure out how to beat it and win. Winning means different things to different people, but the most important ingredient is believing that you can win. Learning to play in spite of the fear because we all have it at different times in our lives. And just like the game of chess – it’s about playing again and again and again and gaining that sense of confidence that if I play long enough and hard enough, I will win in spite of the disadvantages we might feel we have as humans. Together we will win. Together we will learn. And together we will have loads of fun!
To Your Success!
