I wanted to interrupt the series of 2010 – Your Goals – Your Life today to just touch on a few pressing observations about the fragile nature of our lives and human condition. We live our lives as though we will live forever although we know we won’t. We know that time is limited with our loved ones, yet we act like we have forever. We have a tough time seeing those things that are most obvious to everyone else. We can help others, but we have a hard time helping ourselves. In the midst of the congregation of all human kind, everyone hopes for the best, few plan for the worst, highest dreams are hard to believe they can be realized although it’s really very easy and most (still) live lives of quiet desperation. Most want to complain but few ever do much about making a difference, everyone is primarily interested in WIFM and most won’t move from their comfort zone unless they are forced out of it. Most want better for their kids but do not know how to help them get it (outside of the socially specific means by which to appear to be doing something positive, i.e. get a “good education”, get a “good job”, marry well, “work hard and keep your nose clean”, etc. And with age-old results, we continue to live, breathe and remain in our proverbial boxes.
This upcoming year, I encourage you to do more, complain less, take action rather than make excuses, criticize or point fingers, see things as they are instead of how you wish they could be, make a positive difference, get out of the box, commit to yourself to find the GREAT that is within you no matter where it leads you, encourage your kids to do the same, live like you are dying, and accept that you are but just one breath away from inevitable mortality. What will your legacy be?
