Yes, 103 goals takes a bit of time to write and consider, tweak and add to… I remember getting stuck around #87. That’s when bigger vision goals as “Curing Cancer”, “Curing World Hunger” and other visionary and noble goals come from. It’s the “stretch” process that is created by reaching and contemplating 103 of them. Five, 10 or 20 would be pretty easy to rattle off, but the important aspect of this is to grow beyond yourself, consider all of your goals and then those goals that could impact others, bring you great joy beyond just the day-to-day satisfaction of being fulfilled.

Now, that you hopefully have 103 goals, or close to it, go through them and read them carefully. Take the top 10 that your life just would not be complete if you did not accomplish them in your lifetime and write those down separately. Make sure they are beefy goals, not a “to do” list. Then select five of the ten and put stars by them. This is not set in stone. You can add to and take away and change your top five goals at any time, but these are the ones you will commit to working on.

I’m sure you have heard of SMART goals and that’s what I want you to do now. Make these five present tense, positively (not negatively stated – do not use no, not, never), Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic andTime bound.  “I want to lose weight” might turn into “I weight 135 pounds by 10/31/20__.” Do this for each goal. “I will not smoke” will turn into “I am smoke free by 6/1/20__”. “I want to go to Europe” might turn into “I am going to Florence, Venice and Amsterdam by 12/25/20__”. “I will not eat so much chocolate” might turn into “I eat one serving of dark chocolate three times per week”. “I want to spend more quality time with my family” might turn into “I spend at least an hour each evening with my family four times/week”. Notice I did not use the “I will…” as this is putting your goal into the eternal future tense which will make it much trickier to accomplish. Ever accomplish something today that is yet to be on the drawing board for today? Nope. So put it on the drawing board, make it positively stated, current as in present tense, and as specific and date driven as you can. Once you get these five, write them down on an index card or in a journal and being writing them every day. If you drink tea or coffee, set it beside the coffee pot or tea area, and while you are making your morning beverage, write them. It won’t take long and the exercise is truly life altering!

Give this a go and then I will touch base to see how you are doing. Feel free to leave your comments about your experiences below in the comments section.
