Have we become so interested in pleasing everyone and making sure that everyone is comfortable that we have lost the principles that made us the greatest country in the world? Were we been so interested in making everyone equal that we have only succeeded in making everyone unfortunately the same? The same rights that were put there to protect us are now being turned around and used to protect others not interested in the same founding principles. Separation of church and state was there to allow us the freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Let us not take God out of our systems, off of our money, out of our courts if WE THE PEOPLE so choose for it not to be so. Have we created an entitlement society where all we do is put out our hand or say “that’s too hard” and the government steps in and gives us a hand out? It’s “too hard to save for our own retirement” therefore we demand that they shore up our social security system because we have not been frugal and responsible with our own money? Let’s extend unemployment benefits since there are those who would prefer to collect it than to get a job. Let’s do that, then turn around and require all of these same people to buy health insurance that they cannot afford, and they cannot afford not to have (and neither can we!). And on top of it all, the “freedom of speech” has now lost all of its dignity when it comes used as a phrase by people speaking their minds on blogs, message boards and other media. Have you read some of the ignorance that these sites espouse? Name calling and disrespect for even the most base human quality! “Freedom” is now just another word thrown about as government invades every area of our lives to tell us to wear seat belts because we’re not intelligent or safety-conscious enough to do so on our own. Some states are not allowing texting while driving because we are not smart enough to stop it on our own. The logical thoughts and actions that should govern our behavior are gone as we now have to be told what to do, how to do it, when to stop doing it, and when and where we can do it. English is our language – learn it. God is our cornerstone. “Illegal” still means not legal in Webster the last time I checked. “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” does not mean special treatment. It does however provide for the equal opportunity to work hard, play hard and ultimately to become successful if you stick with it long enough, do the right things and work to be an upstanding, responsible individual in the world.  Check what it DOES say:

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. – excerpt from the Declaration of Independence.

I am not sure where the interference is going to stop and sanity begin again but I hope it is soon before our rights to just be are extinguished and replaced by simply “we once were”….
