It is sad when communication breaks down to where people cannot even continue to dialog about how to come together on an initiative or effort. Whether it is toward maintaining a relationship, working toward a common endeavor, politics, religion or something as simple as fashion or art. I read blogs sometime where people insult each other, are rude, and the conversations soon break down into name calling and worse. People stop talking, stop working together, go into their separate corners of the world and forward movement stops. Those who should benefit from the growth through conversation cease expanding their minds. Those who should benefit from the combined efforts, won’t. It is important to continue the conversation until there is communal understanding. Consensus is when possibly neither is 100% satisfied with the result but can be lived with it and respect can be maintained. It’s like “I love chocolate ice cream and you love vanilla but I HATE vanilla ice cream and you loathe chocolate”. Maybe we can agree to eat STRAWBERRY ice cream together as a compromise. But if we storm off because you won’t eat chocolate and I won’t try your vanilla, we may miss that opportunity to come together at a critical juncture.

There are many paths that can take you to the top of the mountain. We can journey on our own separate paths, we can aid each other along the way or we can throw obstacles in each other’s way as we try to mount the precipice. What do you think is the most productive way?
