I refer back to “Where there is no gap, there is no need. Where there is no need, there is no motivation to change.” August 4, 2009 (Quote of the Day) It is an absolute shame that those in power locally to make a difference in this time of crisis are not stepping up to take charge and becoming more visible, taking more action, doing more to stem the tide of what is happening in our society. Yes, they are going about their work-a-day world, going home at their normal time, arriving at their normal time, taking their allotted vacation and holidays, doing their normal routine. Maybe there is a little more stress. Maybe there is a little more concern for their job security. But how many, in positions to DO SOMETHING and are paid to do so, are really taking to heart the increasing number of unemployed, underemployed and non-reporting unemployed? The increasing number of homeless? The increasing number of impoverished and hungry? The number of kids we are losing to drugs, alcohol, hopelessness, suicide? How many are taking note? How many are waking up at 4:00 the morning asking “What more can I do” and getting up early to do it?” How many are going to sleep thinking about the plight of others and asking themselves “What more can we do?” with the burning desire to rectify some of what is going awry? Unfortunately, I see WAY TOO MUCH business as usual. Unfortunately there are those who could do more, who have not felt the gap, who have not felt the pain, who have not put themselves in another’s shoes to feel the holes or to feel the burn of hunger in their bodies. And until it happens to THEM, they will not be motivated to step out of their comfort zone to act on behalf of another. It is time for action! It is time for an uprising and for our community to DEMAND more than we are getting from those who have the ability to make a drastic difference! It does not matter how we have done things in the past. It is time for new actions, new thought-processes, new outreach programs, create new jobs, new ways of thinking and doing things and EVERYONE, especially those who are being paid to do so, needs to be part of the solution. For if you are not part of the solution, you ARE the problem.

Tracy
